The master usually uses a lot of stone and metal in his works. His favorite themes are depicting the heroes of Estonian epics, as well as mythical and magical characters.
The sculpture “Kalev returns home” is no exception: it is related to the story of the warrior Kalev, one of the main heroes of Finno-Ugric mythology. The plot of the sculpture repeats the legend of how Kalev was looking for the best place on earth, but in the end, he returned to his homeland because he realized that there is no better place.
Tauno Kangro sculptures can be found in Germany, Denmark, France, Sweden and Finland. In Estonia, the author has nearly 30 sculptures – they have become real symbols of Tallinn and other cities.
